Abstract:

According to target 18 of the MDGs, the UN agencies are encouraged, in cooperation with the private sector, to make available the benefits of new technologies, especially information and communications. In 2004, WHO established an internal taskforce bringing tegether eHealth focal points from both HQ clusters and regions. An internal strategic plan was produced and approved. Now the "eHealth Resolution", will confirm WHO's leadership in this new and essential domain with special emphasis on facilitating access of the low-income countries, the use of these networking facilities for both better public health, healthcare delivery, epidemiology and Health education and training. WHO will also produce an eHealth report fro the next World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) and will develop active collaboration with the relevant UN agencies, such as ITU and UNESCO, for boosting the integration of eHealth in the daily health-related activities worldwide.
