Abstract:

Providing digital services to citizens is more and more important for governments. After a first phase of experimentation and prototyping, where many good example of e-service have been set-up in many countries, it is becoming more and more clear that digital government services provision has a common set of requirements, which are largely independent from the specific application areas.

These are requirements concerned with: identity management, security, privacy, usability. For the first three of them, the presence of a common underlying IT infrastructure is a sure catalist for service development and diffusion, since it would allow a more efficient and effective delivery of # services to citizens. In the talk this issue is presented in the light of experiences in Italy with eID and eHealth.
