The conference is being held in collaboration with Luxembourg, which currently holds the EU presidency, and the European Commission. The conference takes place in Tromsø on 23 and 24 May, following those held in Brussels in 2003 and Cork in Ireland in 2004.
The conference will focus on public health and look at issues such as how one can improve the availability and quality of the health services, patient safety and productivity. The question of how the health services can meet the needs of patients and the public in a better way, while increasing the public's knowledge about health, will be the theme of the conference. In addition, delegates will look at opportunities for facilitating staff and patient mobility in and between the countries, and thus respond to new challenges resulting from increased mobility in Europe.
"By holding the conference in Tromsø we can showcase the good Norwegian work taking place within eHealth to the rest of Europe," says Mr Gabrielsen. "This also provides opportunities for international cooperation that can contribute to new solutions in the field."
The Ministry of Health and Care Services has assigned the operative responsibility for the conference to the Norwegian Directorate for Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine (NST) in Tromsø which enjoys great respect internationally for its work in telemedicine.
